The Geometry of Abstraction brings together the unique work of Tim Gilbert and Barbara Mata. Gathering inspiration from nature, the seasons, and man-made structures, both artists offer an artist’s insight and perspective on life in the here and now.
Tim Gilbert studied art at Syracuse University, and attained a degree in Advertising Design. After retirement from the advertising field, Tim has dedicated himself to his art. His is a blend of the bold and the subtle; bold patterns, bold colors, with subtle shifts of hue and texture, masterfully executed in oil. Barbara, who studied at the Museum of Fine Art in Boston, works with mixed media, including spray paint, oils, acrylics, graphite, and sometimes, found objects and materials. Examining her work, one finds not only a “painting”, but a construction.
While these artists had not met prior to this exhibit, this collaborative show highlights the brilliant way in which two individuals, using different methods, different techniques, and approaching the world from entirely different directions, can come together in a show that appears entirely harmonious. Indeed, while their work differs in execution, one could be excused for believing this show was a collaborative effort between them.
The reception will be from 3 – 6 PM on Sunday, July 22. Light refreshments will be served.
Exhibit run through July 28th.
