The successful SoloStage program continues this January with Stephanie S. Lazenby’s original show, Where Do I Begin?. This poignant comedy travels from the 70’s through the 90’s and into the present day on the heels of the music and moments of Stephanie’s memories. Where Do I Begin? Runs from January 22 to January 24 for both in-person and online audiences. Where Do I Begin? is made possible through generous sponsorship from JCM Management, Hub Entertainment Research, Piscataqua Savings Bank, and We Fill Good.

“The theme for NHTP’s season is, ‘What Are You Waiting For?’ and it couldn’t be more appropriate.” says Stephanie Lazenby “I had a draft of Where Do I Begin? and it’s been swirling around as an “oh I would love to do this one day” kind of thing. Then Covid hit and my work as a teaching artist came to a screeching halt which gave me the space to look at my writing and reimagine my work. When Catherine Stewart, Artistic Director at New Hampshire Theatre Project asked me to be a part of SoloStage I did jumpy claps all over town. It’s incredible – New Hampshire Theatre Project is committed to supporting theatre makers to create their best work. Even though this is a solo show, it is highly collaborative and I get to work with Catherine.”

Covid-safe shows are performed live (with social distancing) and streamed live on Friday and Saturday at 7pm, and Sunday at 2pm. For further information and to purchase tickets visit nhtheatreproject.org, and check out On Stage Now!  Live streamed shows are interactive with audience members, so you can live in New Hampshire and California and chat with each other while the show is running. This online experience is another way to connect our audiences.

New Hampshire Theatre Projects’s 2020/2021 Mainstage season, SoloStage, supports three artists for six months as they develop new performances through a series of workshops, open rehearsals and work-in-progress performances. “This is a unique and exciting moment to support new work by wildly talented artists. Solo performances are integral to theatre, so we are excited to honor this part of our tradition. And during this moment where many theatres are shutting down, we are fortunate to be producing original shows like, Where Do I Begin?” says Artistic Director and collaborator, Catherine Stewart.

About Stephanie S. Lazenby

Stephanie is a writer, performer and educator. She is a juried Artist in Residence on the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts. You can find her profile here at Creative Ground

As a teaching artist, Stephanie creates original, curriculum based plays at schools throughout the Seacoast. She creates a safe working environment that honors individual strengths and creates trust which allows for personal and group discovery. Stephanie created and runs the Couch to Mic comedy series at New Hampshire Theatre Project. This performance class guides students in five weeks to a five-minute stand up comedy set. All classes and shows have sold out. She also runs Teen Sketch Comedy club as well.

Stephanie brings twenty five years of writing and performing experience to the page, stage and classroom. Most recently, she has been performing as an emcee for the Couch to Mic series, Pecha Kucha and co-host for TedX Piscataqua.

Where Do I Begin? brings Stephanie back to her roots as a comedian and solo performer.
