Poet Charles Simic will be the featured guest in the Kittery Art Association’s annual Mangion Memorial Poetry Celebration on Saturday, May 5, beginning with a public interview and craft talk with the poet from 3:00pm to 4:30pm in the afternoon, and the reading, reception, and book signing beginning at 7pm the same evening. Charles Simic has since written over 60 books of poetry, prose, and translation, and contributed poetry to more than one hundred magazines. His works have been translated into several languages, and he has been honored with numerous awards including the Frost Medal, the Pulitzer Prize, the MacArthur Foundation “genius grant,” the Griffin International Poetry Prize, and the Wallace Stevens Award. He was selected by James Billington, Librarian of Congress, to be the fifteenth Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress.
Both events will be held at the First Congregational Church at 23 Pepperrell Road in Kittery Point. The suggested donation is $20.00, which admits one to both events.
