SAA Member Photographers Show

Seacoast Artist Association
130 Water St.
Exeter, NH 03833 United States

“A good photographer records; a great photographer reveals,” says photojournalist Skyler Reid.  Photography is indeed art.  It captures emotions and requires skill and imagination.

The Seacoast Artist Association in Exeter is known not just for their painters and sculptors but for their talented photographers.  They have several on their roster of exhibiting artists, each who have developed a following, including Patricia Boyd-Robertson, Ann Brown, Dave Saums, Dennis Skillman, Kevin Talbot, Debra Woodward, and Charlene Yelle. All are exhibiting new images this month, framed or printed on canvas on the walls, as well as in the bins of matted works.

Here are just two of the many photographs showing now.  “I would go to Cedar Key every year just for the pleasure of being there,” says Pat Boyd-Robertson of Exeter about the island city off the northwest coast of Florida. “There is restoration going on, but they’ll never get rid of the colors, angles, shadows and mystical feeling.”

Ann Brown has been photographing the famous Exeter Eagles for about 4 years now so was excited to see their return this winter when mating season had begun. “But much to my surprise it was a new female!” said Ann.  “She is a young eagle, approximately 4 1/2 years old, but seemed interested in her new mate. Since eagles mate for life I can only assume the past female sadly had met her demise. But the one thing I have learned in Wildlife Photography is that while nature can be cruel, it is ever resilient…and life does go on. So hoping for complete prosperity to the new couple!”

You can meet many of the SAA artists at their next Second Friday artist reception on April 14th from 5-7.  Music will be provided by Exeter Irish harper and teacher Regina Delaney.  The gallery is open Wed-Sat, 10-5 and Sun, 1-4 and there is always an exhibiting member to tell you about the artists.  Parking is free.

There will be a members show at the Exeter Town Hall Gallery in May titled “Primavera: The Art of Spring,” so now is a great time to be come a regular non-juried member.  These members can participate in the off-site exhibits such as the Town Hall and the Exeter Inn, as well as the monthly theme shows at a member rate.  Stop in at the gallery to find out or see seacoastartist.org and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
