Located on Gerrish Island in Kittery Point, Fort Foster offers three small but sandy beaches, an extensive trail system, restroom facilities in season, picnic areas, pavilions to rent, and old military fortifications to explore.
The park features an excellent view of the entrance to Portsmouth Harbor, including Whaleback Light, Portsmouth Harbor Light, and Fort Constitution.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Kittery is not taking Fort Foster pavilion reservations at this time. We will announce when reservations are being accepted as we get closer to the season opening.
CLOSED FOR THE SEASON
Fort Foster Park is now closed to vehicular traffic until next season. The gate is locked to all vehicular traffic, however pedestrian traffic is allowed inside the park from sunrise to sunset and parking is permitted outside the gatehouse. Due to COVID-19, the visiting public should observe all signage to insure safe social distancing in trails and open areas. Per CDC guidelines, dogs must be on leash at Fort Foster at all times. Additionally, visitors should remain within the confines of the park as violators may be prosecuted for trespassing on private property.
SEASON AND HOURS OF OPERATION
Fort Foster is open on weekends (Saturday & Sunday) in May and September as well as every day of the week between and including Memorial Day and Labor Day. The park opens at 10:00 am and closes at 8:00 pm or dusk (whichever comes first). Closing times are posted at the gate and visitors should be aware that the in-bound gate closes to vehicles 30 minutes prior to the posted park closing time.
We look forward to seeing you next season!
