The Macrotones

Formed in Boston in 2007, The Macrotones are a dynamic 10-piece band known for their fusion of off-beat funk, soul, and global rhythms. Their sound blends infectious grooves with mighty horn sections and catchy hooks, creating a vibe that fills any dancefloor. With influences ranging from classic funk to modern soul, their music has been described as “imperial funk” and “astrobeat,” offering a soundscape that transports you to another world.

Over the years, The Macrotones have shared the stage with iconic acts like Lee Fields & the Expressions, Durand Jones & the Indications, and Grupo Fantasma. Their discography includes several well-received albums, including Wayne Manor (2008), First Signs of Danger (2010), and Unknown Outpost (2016), the latter of which marked a new chapter with guest vocalists like Iyeoka. In 2020, they released Bloody Hands, an EP featuring their signature mix of edgy funk and classic soul, especially highlighted by the gritty vocals of Phil Desisto, who joined the band full-time in 2019.

Flying Vipers

Hailing from Waltham, MA, Flying Vipers bring a dubwise reggae sound that’s steeped in the traditions of Jamaican and UK roots reggae. A 7-piece powerhouse, they create murky, soulful dub on a Tascam 8-track, infusing each track with a heavy dose of bass, horns, and bubbling keys. Drawing on over two decades of experience, the band blends their love of reggae with DIY punk influences, resulting in a sound that’s both gritty and uplifting.

Flying Vipers’ musical journey includes the release of several critically acclaimed recordings, such as The Green Tape (2015) and Cuttings (2020), which received rave reviews for its heavy dub grooves. They’ve also shared the stage with reggae legends like Burning Spear, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and the Skatalites. The band’s punk roots come through with their unique cover of Black Flag’s first EP in dub style (Nervous Breakdub). Most recently, the Vipers released the single “Show Me” in 2024, a track that gained international attention, including airplay on BBC by the legendary David Rodigan.

Together, The Macrotones and Flying Vipers deliver a night of electrifying sound that spans continents and genres. Whether you’re grooving to the progressive funk of The Macrotones or getting lost in the dub rhythms of Flying Vipers, this show promises to be an unforgettable experience—each band bringing their own distinct sound to the stage for a night you won’t want to miss!
