“Freedom to Be” at the Kennedy Gallery

Kennedy Gallery and Custom Framing
41 Market St
Portsmouth, NH 03801 US

Please join us for an Opening Reception on Friday, July 11 from 5 to 8 pm, or stop in during the month of July to enjoy a show of Ann Trainor Domingue’s new works.

“Let freedom ring, freedom isn’t free, freedom is a state of mind. These short mantras are among hundreds found in a simple web search. They are all true but it is very difficult to find another word that defines the word freedom any more clearly than freedom. In my ongoing Village Series begun in 2016, I have had the freedom of selecting architectural and environmental details of small towns and villages in my home state of New Hampshire and throughout the New England region. I’ve rearranged and recombined common building shapes and architectural details to develop a sense of what feels like a vibrant village to me.

As an artist I’ve had the freedom to choose and play with all the building blocks of a painting from shape and color to texture and design. I’m not concerned with making a perfect rendering of any one village– but making a composition where I bring elements together to create a feeling of a village where people are going about their day at work or play, coming or going. This activity of people who live in a village be it a city neighborhood or small town is what brings life and energy where people have the freedom to be.”

Ann Trainor Domingue

The new works are on exhibit July 4 – July 26, 2025.
