Please join us for an Opening Reception on Friday, September 5 from 5 to 8 pm, or stop in during the month of September to enjoy a show of Sam Chappell’s original paintings.
“The term ‘Ebb and Flow’ refers to the natural rhythm of life and the continuous change that is inherent in it. Change is constant, with periods when things are on the rise and others when they are on the decline.
This collection of work has coincided with a new chapter in my life as I’ve experienced the new ebb and flow of my days as a parent. How does my art practice fit into this new lifestyle? How do I navigate and react to the world around me in my new role as someone’s protector? Amid the unpredictability of a constantly changing child, I’ve learned to embrace the highs and give myself grace during the lows.
This stage in my life has given me a new appreciation for the ebb and flow of our coastlines, the way nature’s cycles drastically transform the landscape, and the beauty inherent in each stage. Each painting captures a moment in time: the exposed landscape at low tide, the abundance of high tide, or the tentative equilibrium in the middle.”
