Beneath the Colonial Sky: A New Art Series by Rebecca Klementovich
The Art Center is proud to unveil local artist Rebecca Klementovich’s latest series, Beneath the Colonial Sky, featuring evocative depictions of historical landmarks in southern Maine and the seacoast of New Hampshire.
The exhibition will run from September 9 through October 31 at The Art Center, with an artist reception scheduled for Saturday, October 5, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
Klementovich’s series breathes new life into the cobbled streets and weathered clapboards of these colonial houses, capturing not only the beauty of their historical significance but also the haunting whispers of the unknown that linger within. Drawing from natural subjects such as flowers, mountains, and seascapes, Klementovich infuses her work with a sharp, contemporary edge that transcends time. Her unique approach creates a dynamic tension between abstraction and semi-realism, evoking nostalgia while pushing the boundaries of traditional landscape painting.
Known for her bold use of color, Klementovich masterfully combines unusual hues to evoke the faded memories of those who once lived in these unrecorded homes from the past. Her figure paintings and drawings explore complex relationships and dynamics, often reminiscent of 17th or 18th-century styles, yet always imbued with a modern sensibility. The result is a body of work that is both haunting and intimate, inviting viewers to reflect on the stories that these colonial landmarks hold.
The exhibition will be held at The Art Center, 1 Washington Street, Suite 1177, Dover, NH. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
