or stop in during the month of September to enjoy a show of William Mitchell’s serigraphs.
Throughout the month of September, Kennedy Gallery will feature original serigraphs by master printmaker William Mitchell. Inspired by the rolling landscapes of New England, with its intimate forests, soaring mountains, and rushing streams, Mitchell relies on vivid color and pattern to interpret them in his own unique way. Mitchell states, “I look at the light on the rocks, foliage on the ground, where light falls on the valleys, patterns of light and shadows.” These patterns of color dance throughout each image, bringing the scene to life in a way that make it seem both familiar and brand new.
Mitchell’s serigraphs (also known as silkscreens) show the hand of a skilled painter. Many of his prints began as watercolor paintings that serve as initial “sketches.” In addition to their flowing lines, Mitchell’s prints are known for their striking use of color. The end result is an image filled with the joy and reverence he feels for the New Hampshire landscape. “My serigraphs are my interpretations of New England’s natural beauty,” says Mitchell. “I hope my work can be viewed as visual poems.”
The serigraphs are on exhibit September 6 – September 29, 2024.
