A roundup of weekend entertainment on the Seacoast

After this prolonged election cycle, we could all stand to blow off some steam. Luckily, there are some great entertainment options this weekend, including art, music, comedy, fashion and more. Here are some highlights.

Art ‘Round Town in Portsmouth

Ann Trainor Domingue kennedy

Though capacity is limited, the Art ‘Round Town gallery walk returns to Portsmouth on the first Friday of the month. “Finding Peace by the Sea,” featuring work by Ann Trainor Domingue, opens at the Kennedy Gallery on Friday from 5-7:30 p.m. The New Hampshire Art Association opens several shows this month, including “Intrinsic Moments,” the 21st annual Joan L. Dunfey Exhibit. A virtual award ceremony takes place Friday at 6 p.m.

‘If We Don’t Laugh We’ll Cry’

We could all use a few laughs about now, and The Players’ Ring in Portsmouth is here to help. Writer, actor, and comic Greg Boggis hosts two nights of stand-up comedy at the Ring this weekend, featuring edgy headliners Jody Sloane and Amy Tee. Also on the bill are local comics Will Saxe and Tyler Paterson, who will serve as openers. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $16-$20. For more information, click here.

Art Up Front Street Open Studios

Art Up Front Street in Exeter was forced to cancel its spring open studios, but they’ve got big plans for the fall edition, taking place this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lots of new work will be on display, including paintings, prints, wearable fiber art, pyrography, jewelry, journals, watercolors, industrial quilts, and more. Windows will be open and there will be outdoor exhibit tents (great weather is expected). Learn more here.

Marble Eyes at The Stone Church

The Stone Church continues to bring some of the Seacoast’s hottest bands to Newmarket. The Church’s shows on Friday (Harsh Armadillo) and Sunday (SixFoxWhiskey) are sold out, as is Marble Eyes’ evening show on Saturday. However, there are still some tickets available for Marble Eyes’ outdoor matinee performance on Saturday from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Tickets are sold by the table — $80 for a table of four, or $120 for a table of six. Project Upcycle: Virtual Edition

Project Upcycle — a sustainable fashion show and design competition — has become one of the most hotly anticipated events on the Seacoast. Normally held at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth, this year’s edition goes virtual on Saturday from 8-9 p.m. In addition to the usual prizes determined by a panel of judges, this year’s competition also features an “Audience Choice” award. Knate Higgins plays host. Tickets are pay-what-you-choose. Learn more here.
