For the month of November we welcome Ann Trainor Domingue as our featured artist, with her new show “Finding Peace by the Sea.” The works comprising this exhibit offer a well timed and much needed pause, a shift, and a delightful touch of whimsy to help us all through. Here is Ann’s introduction to this collection of paintings and the process that inspired them:
“There are so many aspects of the seashore that bring people a sense of peace. From the subtle early morning light to the spectacular light of a sunset. From squinting into the bright sun reflecting off the water to staying til the last light at the beach before the sand fleas attack. All these are perfect reasons to stay as long as possible in a place that brings you a sense of calm and relaxation.
In this series of artworks, I’ve created pieces that remind me of an experience at the beach or seacoast. I do like to wander along the unmanicured areas where its likely I’ll find some flotsam and jetsam left behind by a storm or catch a unique view of a common sight. Sometimes I’ll take a quick snapshot to remind me of a detail. I’ll think a while—even years– on how I could incorporate a particular scene or detail.
I work in sketchbooks to work out designs and plan how I could weave something I’ve seen into a new painting. Sometimes it takes many pages of thinking before I find just the right elements that will result in a strong design. I usually leave the color choices to whatever strikes me as I paint—at times it is derived from reality and other times its random.
Wherever and however you find peace as you sit or stroll along the seacoast, I hope you will enjoy how I reflect those same moments in my work.”
Please join us for an Opening Reception in conjunction with the monthly Art Round Town Gallery Walk.
