Capt. David S. Hunt has been selected as the next commander of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, the Naval Sea Systems Command announced late last week.

Hunt takes command of the shipyard later this year. A Philadelphia native, he is currently serving as military deputy for shipyard operations in Washington, D.C. He was previously assigned as operations officer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

“I am honored to return to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard to lead this team of dedicated and skilled professionals,” Hunt said in a press release. “I am looking forward to serving once again at the Navy’s premier shipyard for attack submarine maintenance, repair and modernization.”

Hunt will replace Capt. William C. Greene, who has served as commander of the shipyard since May 2013. Greene’s next duty assignment has not yet been announced. — MK
