Cryin Caleb & Lynda Mandolyn
@ The Button Factory Stage
Dubbed the Blues-Punk Prophet of Doom, Cryin Caleb is a one-man-band spectacle- equal parts sideshow act and sonic reckoning. A singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, he delivers blistering, soul-soaked performances that feel like a cross between a haunted carnival and a Rock n’ Roll revival. Brash yet melodic, his sets are both a whirlwind of upbeat distorted guitar riffs and thundering drums played simultaneously with precision, as well as a tender, soulful display of crooned ballads. With equal parts cynicism and pathos, his dynamic, rousing songs are almost always laced with desperation, dealing with existential dread, lonesomeness, regret, alienation, love, and armageddon. Drawing comparisons to the swagger of The Cramps, the gravelly mystique of Tom Waits, and the theatrical flair of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Cryin Caleb is impossible to forget.
Lynda Mandolyn is an American musician best known for her work in several all female groups, including garage rock icons Tiger Bomb, pop punks Fabulous Disaster, and seminal power trio Inside Out (Detroit). She is also a founding member of Portland shoegaze quartet Crystal Canyon. Lynda was inducted into the Detroit Music Hall of fame and has recorded a prestigious John Peel session. Her solo songs center around ethereal/reverb laden vocals with pop hooks. In April, she completed a successful solo tour of Iceland. She has released many digital singles and is planning on recording her first full solo album this year.
