Hoots and hollers at The Word Barn

It won’t be cold at The Word Barn on Friday night, when Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem offer some hot New Orleans grooves and rafter-shaking harmonies from 7-9 p.m. ($25). Return to Exeter on Sunday afternoon for another indoor edition of Owls of New England from 3-4 p.m. ($25).  Learn more here.

Seacoast twang-rock band Deer Isle headlines a night of local music at The Press Room in Portsmouth with guests Coyote Smoke and The Mountain on Friday at 8 p.m. ($15-$18). A stacked lineup of indie and alternative artists from across New England will take the stage at Newmarket Millspace on Friday night. A Cozy Concert at South Church

Musicians Emily Hale and Joel Spears will headline a Cozy Concert for kids at South Church in Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon. Featuring musical charades with quirky 17th century chamber music, the wild rumpus begins at 3 p.m. There’s a suggested donation of $5 per child, $12 per adult, or $25 per family. Learn more here.

Triple-bill metal show at WSCA Radio

A heavy night of live hardcore, metalcore, and punk music lands at Portsmouth Community Radio on Saturday night. Regional bands Southgate (Mass.), Overtime (N.H.), and Moral Injury (N.H.) will share the Button Factory Stage beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10-$15. Learn more here.

Lee DeWyze at The Music Hall Lounge

Chicago native Lee DeWyze will settle in for two nights of music at The Music Hall Lounge this weekend. The singer-songwriter — a former winner of “American Idol” — will perform live in Portsmouth on Saturday from 8-9:30 p.m. and Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. Tickets are $24-$50. Learn more here.

James Geralden at STAR Theatre

Headlining the next edition of the Easy Like Sunday Mornings Jazz Brunch series is jazz and blues singer James Geralden. The L.A. transplant will perform at STAR Theatre in the Kittery Community Center on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. while guests enjoy brunch catered by Loco Coco’s Tacos. Tickets are $25 (includes food). Rollercoaster at 3S Artspace
