Art and drag at Newmarket Millspace
The Millspace in Newmarket will hold a gallery reception for its new art exhibit, “Flora and Flame,” on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Two nights later, Gem Fatale hosts a fabulous evening of drag, glamour, and high-energy performances in Mill After Dark, taking place on Sunday at 7 p.m. ($15-$20). Comedy and music at STAR Theatre
Known to some as the “Grand Dame of Comedy” and to others as a “Funny Old Bag,” standup comedian Susan Rice will perform at STAR Theatre in the Kittery Community Center on Friday at 7 p.m. ($20-$30). Music, art, and poetry at The Word Barn
The Word Barn’s weekend gets going with a performance by Griffin William Sherry on Friday from 8-10 p.m. ($30). Molly C. Meng leads the Connecting with Collage Workshop on Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. ($95). Ward Hayden and the Outliers follow on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. ($25). On Sunday from 4-6 p.m., the Silo Series presents poets Rebecca Hart Olander, Diana Whitney, and Abbie Kiefer (free, donations accepted). Learn more here.
A night of dark music at The Stone Church
The Stone Church in Newmarket will host a very dark night of very dark music with four delightfully dark, punk-influenced acts on Friday night from 8-11 p.m. Presented by Platorum, the show features regional artists Replaced by Robots, Bitter Pill, Gossip Collar, and Cryin Caleb. Drawing from Nature at the Kittery Art Association
Award-winning artist Asia Scudder will lead an art workshop focused on pencil illustrations that capture natural form on Saturday morning. Artists of all experience levels are invited to participate in Drawing From Nature in the Kittery Art Association’s lower level studio space from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Tickets are $50. Learn more here.
Songs of Faith, Hope, and Light
The Community Chorus at South Berwick will host a pair of joyful spring concerts this weekend. Titled “Songs of Faith, Hope, and Light,” the program will be held at First Parish Congregational Church in Dover on Saturday at 3 p.m. and at Berwick Academy in South Berwick on Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $17-$20. Saturday night at The Press Room
The Press Room in Portsmouth is the place to party on Saturday night. First, the double-bill of Gnarly Darling and Soul Color bring American grooves and soulful vibes to the stage at 6 p.m. ($15-$20). Haggard & Cashed at The Rockingham Ballroom
Seven-piece, triple-fiddle honky-tonk and western swing band Haggard and Cashed will perform live at The Rockingham Ballroom in Newmarket on Saturday night, and 603 Line Dance will be on hand to guide you through some beginner-friendly line dancing. Two indie bands at WSCA Radio
Two experimental indie acts will split the bill at WSCA Portsmouth Community Radio on Saturday night. Seacoast band Cold Signal Fires and Massachusetts-based group The Endorphins will create noisy yet melodic ambient dreamscapes from the Button Factory Stage beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10-$15. Wild and Weedy Wellness at Tuckaway Farm
The Well Cultivated Life’s Wild and Weedy Wellness: Herbal Foraging Workshop Series returns to Tuckaway Farm in Lee beginning this Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Herbalist Alison Magill will help you identify and harvest local plants and then teach you how to turn them into herbal products. Tickets for the foraging walk only are $30 per person or $50 per family; the walk and workshop combined is $75 per person or $120 per family. Learn more here.
