Top five things to do: May 20-26

A roundup of VIRTUAL entertainment on the Seacoast

The virtual world holds many wonders over the next week. Here are some of the highlights.

Seal Distancing Webinar

While human distancing is hopefully a temporary practice, we should always keep our distance from seals on local beaches. The Seacoast Science Center and National Marine Life Center are joining forces on Thursday, May 21, from 6-7 p.m. to explain how you can help protect seals this beach season. A team of marine wildlife experts will lead an online presentation on regional seal species, seal pupping season, and more. Learn more here.

Virtual DJ Skooch

Just because your favorite bar is closed doesn’t mean you have to skip happy hour with your favorite local deejay. Loaded Question Brewing Co. hosts a Virtual Happy Hour with DJ Skooch every Friday from 5-6 p.m. You can pick up some tasty brews in Portsmouth or get a delivery before hopping on Facebook or Instagram for some virtual jams. You can also catch DJ Skooch during 3S Artspace’s Virtual Wake + Rave on Wednesdays from 7-8 a.m.

Word Barn Comedy Live Online

Other guest comics include Tooky Kavanagh, Joe Flynn, Pat Bolduc, Kathe Farris, and Alan Richardson, plus hosts Josh and Sara Day. For more information, click here.

WSCA Live Broadcasting

WSCA Portsmouth Community Radio

In a welcome return to some degree of normalcy, WSCA Portsmouth Community Radio has resumed live broadcasting at 106.1 FM. After weeks of automated programming, many DJs are voluntarily returning to the studio to present popular programs like “Pirate Friday,” “The Environmental Hour,” “The Coven,” “Point of Departure,” “Blues Power,” “Granite Rodeo,” “Ship of Fools,” “The Kitchen Sink,” and “The Black Box.” Learn more here.

Smoke-N-Joke Comedy At Home Edition

Matt Barry, who in 2013 was crowned New England’s Best Bar Comic, headlines the next at-home edition of the Smoke-N-Joke Comedy Series. Hosted by local comic Josh Day, the online event also features guests Paul Landwehr, Marleah Rose, Phoebe Angle, Trent Wells, and Chris D. A portion of proceeds from the donation-based ticket sales goes to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. For more information, click here.
