There are lots of options for entertaining mom (or yourself) over Mother’s Day weekend. Here are some highlights.

Steel Magnolias at the Rep

“Steel Magnolias” premiered off-Broadway in 1987 and was adapted into a 1989 film starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, and Julia Roberts. Robert Harling’s comedy-drama is at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre in Portsmouth May 9-June 1, with The Mad Men of Oopsy Daisy Inc. directing an all-star cast. Show times are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $22-$40. Learn more here.

10th Annual Clothing Swap

Highlights of Portsmouth Public Library’s 10th Annual Clothing Swap include music from DJ Skooch, a Sustainable Seacoast table, a mending table, refreshments from White Heron Tea & Coffee, and children’s activities. And, of course, there’s the swap, in which guests donate a bag of gently used items in exchange for clothing and shoes donated by others. The event takes place at the Connie Bean Center in Portsmouth on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Learn more here.

28th Annual Kitchen Tour

Eleven new and historic homes in downtown Portsmouth are featured in The Music Hall’s 28th Annual Kitchen Tour, taking place Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Many of the craftsmen, artisans, designers, and architects who created these state-of-the-art kitchens will be on hand to answer questions about their creations. The self-guided tour map includes a suggested route with a total distance of less than a mile. Tickets are $25-$30. For more information, click here.

Mangion Poetry Celebration

Award-winning poet Catherine Barnett will be the featured guest at the Kittery Art Association’s annual Mangion Poetry Celebration on Saturday, May 11. She’ll be the subject of an interview and craft talk at the First Congregational Church of Kittery Point at 1:30 p.m. A poetry reading, reception, and book signing follows at 7 p.m., all hosted by former Portsmouth Poet Laureate Kimberly Cloutier Green. Ten local and regional acts are performing in the second annual Summit Indie Fest at Portsmouth Book and Bar on Saturday, May 11, from 2-11 p.m. They include Kingsley Flood (Boston and Washington, D.C.), Troll 2 (Boston), Carissa Johnson (Boston), The Wolff Sisters (Boston), Latrell James (Boston), As the Sparrow (Boston), Young Frontier (Portsmouth and Boston), Gretchen & The Pickpockets (Portsmouth), Def.GRLS (Brooklyn), and Tyler Legare (Haverhill, Mass.).
