Valentine’s weekend offers music, comedy, theater, art, and romance on the Seacoast. Here are some of the highlights.

Songwriter Ruby Rose Fox, a Brookline native who has won numerous Boston music awards over the last five years, will be in Portsmouth for two shows at The Press Room on Friday, Feb. 14. In the first, titled You and Me and Leonard Cohen, Fox will bring some of Cohen’s famed ballads to life with her powerful vocals beginning at 7 p.m. ($15-$23). In the second, she’ll take the stage with her full band beginning at 9:30 p.m. ($15-$20).

Mike McDonald’s Comedy Extravaganza

Boston comedy legend Mike McDonald returns to The Music Hall in Portsmouth for his 19th annual Comedy Extravaganza on Friday, Feb. 14, from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Joining him for stand-up sets are fellow comics Jimmy Shubert, Christine Hurley, Robbie Printz, and Tina Friml. There will also be live music from Sunset Taxicab. The event is a benefit for the Cross Roads House homeless shelter and the Gather food pantry. Tickets are $25-$42. Cormac McCarthy & Sammie Haynes

Local musicians Cormac McCarthy and Sammie Haynes have invited a group of friends to join them for a Valentine’s Day performance at Portsmouth Book and Bar on Friday, Feb. 14, from 8-10 p.m. The Seacoast ensemble will play all kinds of love songs — romantic and otherwise — under twinkling lights in the cozy space. Among the special guests are Ben Baldwin, Agnes Charlesworth, Kent Allyn, Doug Bennett, Bruce Derr, and Rob Kneeland. Tickets are $10. Learn more here.

‘A Skull in Connemara’ at the Ring

A bit of heart, a splash of gore, and a lot of irreverent humor are among the ingredients in Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy “A Skull in Connemara.” Premiering in 1998, the story revolves around a gravedigger in rural Ireland. Generic Theater is staging the show at The Players’ Ring in Portsmouth Feb. 14 to March 1. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $16-$20. Artist Member Show at The Art Center

The Art Center in Dover is showcasing the work of a selection of local artists during the month of February. An opening reception for the gallery’s all-member show takes place Saturday, Feb. 15, from 6-8 p.m. Pieces by more than a dozen new and long-time members will be on display, including paintings, photographs, sculptures, prints, and mixed-media works.
