Morning’s at Seven
In these times of turmoil, it’s refreshing to imagine simpler days. Generic Theater is marking its 35th anniversary with a production of Paul Osborn’s comedy “Morning’s at Seven,” which follows a Midwestern family in 1938. Directed by Peggi McCarthy, the show opens tonight (Feb. 17) and runs through March 5 at The Players’ Ring in Portsmouth. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15, available here.
The Mallett Brothers
An original product of Maine, The Mallett Brothers Band has earned a strong regional following over the last seven years with their distinctive alt-country sound. The band’s new album, “The Falling of the Pine,” released just this month, features historic 19th-century Maine folk songs. They’ve also released a brand new video. The Mallett Brothers will perform at The Press Room in Portsmouth tonight (Feb. 17) at 10 p.m. Tickets are $7-$10, available here.
Everything Old Is New Again
Storytellers Genevieve Aichele and Pat Spalding are teaching a series of storytelling workshops this weekend and hosting a pair of performances. “Everything Old Is New Again” takes place at West End Studio Theatre in Portsmouth on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. Spalding performs some of her own stories, while Aichele shares tales from Ireland, Puerto Rico, and Turkey, with Bailey Weakley on percussion. Memories of Patsy Cline
One of the most influential voices of the 20th century returns to life this weekend at the Rochester Opera House. The touring tribute concert “Memories of Patsy Cline” takes place Saturday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m. Among the familiar tunes the band will perform are “Crazy,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “She’s Got You,” “San Antonio Rose,” “Blue Moon of Kentucky,” “Sweet Dreams,” and others. Concert for Carl’s
Carl’s Meat Market was forced to shut its doors last month due to a sewer-line break, leaving 17 employees without a job. The shop, a fixture in Kittery for more than 30 years, will remain closed indefinitely until repairs are complete. Local band the Stairwells will perform at a benefit concert at Saint Mark’s United Methodist Church on Sunday, Feb. 19, from 3-4 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $10, with all proceeds going to Carl’s employees.
