Put art, theater, music, and outdoor adventure on your itinerary for the weekend. We think you’ll find it refreshing. Here are some of the entertainment highlights coming to a location near you.

The first Friday of February brings a spate of new exhibits to downtown Portsmouth galleries, many of which will hold opening receptions from 5-8 p.m. Among the highlights are here.

Marguerite Mathews and Greg Gathers of Pontine Theatre bring late author Sarah Orne Jewett’s writing to life in “Dunnet Landing Stories,” which opens tonight (Feb. 3) and runs through Feb. 12 at Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth. As always, the Pontine crew uses puppets, toys, and other props to stage their New England stories. Show times are Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 4 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $24, available here.

Back in 2007, musician Jonny Peiffer and artist Dean Diggins began collaborating on the Wanderkook Project, chronicling Oliver Z. Wanderkook’s discovery of nine tribes in a strange land. Tonight (Feb. 3), Peiffer’s band Sojoy and choreographer Sarah Duclos will perform Wanderkook’s Field Notes on Dance, part of a series inviting audiences to experience and participate in the project. It takes place at The Dance Hall in Kittery, Maine, at 7:30 p.m.; tickets are $12-$15, available here.

Don’t spend your whole winter huddled indoors; go out and play in the snow! The Kittery Land Trust and Kittery Art Association are partnering to offer a day of outdoor exploration at Brave Boat Harbor on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests can hike, snowshoe, cross-country ski, or even dogsled through the trails. Meet at the Brave Boat Headwaters on Route 103; snowshoes will be available. For more information, click here.

Entertainment for all ages is available at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth on Saturday, Feb. 3, beginning with “Rollercoaster: A Family Friendly Dance Party,” featuring the music of George Michael, Prince, David Bowie, and others from 2-4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for one child, and $5 for each additional sibling; parents and kids under 2 get in free. Then, at 8 p.m., Maine-based favorite Lady Lamb takes the stage with support from Henry Jamison. Tickets are $15.
