We have nothing against holiday concerts, but there are so damn many dozens of them that we’re mostly leaving them out of our weekend entertainment roundup. Here are some other notable events coming up over the next couple of days.
UNH history in paint

Art students at the University of New Hampshire have illustrated the school’s 150-year history with a new mural unveiled this week. “Land, Sea, and Space” was created by students in Prof. Jennifer Moses’ intermediate painting class this fall as part of UNH’s sesquicentennial festivities. A reception to celebrate the unveiling takes place this morning (Friday, Dec. 9) at 11 a.m. at the Natural Science Resource Center, located in room 201 of Dimond Library on the Durham campus. Winter Farmers Market

Just because your home garden is in hibernation doesn’t mean you can’t pick up fresh, locally grown produce. Seacoast Eat Local is hosting regular farmers markets through the winter at two alternating locations. The next market takes place on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Exeter High School. The following Saturday, the market shifts to the Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollinsford. Numerous vendors from around the region offer veggies, meats, cheeses, and many other delectable items, and there’s live music. Alternative holiday craft fair
You can count on the fine folks at Wrong Brain to put the “bizarre” in your holiday bazaar. The fifth annual Holidaze Bizaare Alternative Craft Fair takes place Saturday, Dec. 10, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Newmarket Mills. More than 30 vendors will offer vintage and unconventional handmade gifts, including art, clothes, records, zines, toys, knits, cards, knives, skincare, pins, patches, jewelry, and more. If none of those things satisfy the people on your shopping list, just give them coal. There will also be live music and an art gallery. The entry fee is a $1 donation; more info here.
Celebrate the library’s 10th
Throughout the year, Portsmouth Public Library has been holding special events and programs to mark the 10th anniversary of its building on Parrott Avenue. The yearlong celebration concludes with an After Hours Finale Party featuring live music from local favorites the Soggy Po’ Boys on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 6-8:30 p.m. The family-friendly event also includes food and drinks, prizes and activities, and a library-wide scavenger hunt. Punk Samaritans
What a bunch of goody-good do-gooders these punks are. On Saturday, Dec. 10, four area punk bands will perform at the Dover Brickhouse for the fifth annual Punks for Tots benefit concert, presented by Dirty Old Town Booking. The acts include The Damn Garrison, The Pubcrawlers, Guns of Brighton, and The Labor Pains. The show will also serve as a release party for The Damn Garrison’s new 7-inch record. The cover charge is a new, unwrapped toy, or two non-perishable food items. The show begins at 8 p.m.; more information here.
