There’s a whole lot of music, theater, comedy, and more coming up this weekend. Here are some highlights.
Music and film at The Press Room
The Jamie McLean Band brings its musical gumbo to The Press Room in Portsmouth for a gig with Autumn Hollow on Friday at 7 p.m. ($20-$25). Later that night, DJ Jay Sync presents CLUB SYNC at 10:30 p.m. ($10). A special screening of STAČKA (STRIKE), with live musical accompaniment by Dog Lips, takes place on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ($15-$18). Then, Truffle presents the island-themed concert OFF TO THE ISLANDS at 6 p.m. ($20-$25), followed by a set from DJ Ryan Obermiller at 10 p.m. ($10). Sunday starts with a Singles Soundtrack Acoustic Brunch featuring Modern History at 12 p.m. ($15). Finally, Wolfman Jack plays two sets of Primal Grateful Dead at 6 p.m. ($15-$20). Learn more here.
Two nights, six acts at WSCA Radio
Enjoy three flavors of folk at WSCA Radio in Portsmouth when local band Bird Friend (pictured) shares the stage with Timothy Jackson Scott and Dylan Patrick Ward on Friday at 7 p.m. ($10). Then turn up the volume for a triple-bill of heavy with Judge Judy, Youth in Asia, and Amerath on Saturday at 8 p.m. ($10-$15). Learn more here.
Live music at The Word Barn
Following a performance by Colorado-based folk and bluegrass band The Cody Sisters on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. ($25), The Word Barn in Exeter dives into the weekend with Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection on Friday from 7-9 p.m. ($30). “A Day in the Life” at The Players’ Ring
Seacoast comedy troupe Darwin’s Waiting Room returns to The Players’ Ring in Portsmouth for “A Day in the Life,” featuring four short comedic plays written by Eric Doucet and directed by Jamie Bradley. Show times are Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 and 6 p.m. Tickets are $22. Learn more here.
“Once We Were Four” at N.H. Theatre Project
Award-winning writer and performer Susan Poulin weaves together poignant vignettes reflecting on her family’s journey through sorrow and resilience in “Once We Were Four: A Celebration of Life, Loss, and the Healing Power of Love.” It’s at N.H. David Drake at The Music Hall Lounge
New York-based comedian David Drake has appeared on Comedy Central, HBO, Sirius XM, Cracked, Don’t Tell, and Fox, and performs frequently at the Comedy Cellar. He’ll appear twice at The Music Hall Lounge in Portsmouth on Saturday, with stand-up performances from 6-7:30 p.m. and 8:30-10 p.m. Tickets are $19-$29. Learn more here.
Caribbean Nights Party at 3S Artspace
Kandjanwoud Rara, a 15-piece Haitian band based in Boston, will headline the 16th annual Caribbean Nights Street Party at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth on Saturday from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Presented by Life & Hope Haiti, the event is a fundraiser for the Eben Ezer School in the rural town of Milot, Haiti. Linda Ronstadt tribute at the Millspace
Step back in time and experience the unforgettable voice, classic hits, heartfelt harmonies, and unmatched musicianship of Linda Ronstadt at the Newmarket Millspace this weekend. Bedford Big Band at the Ballroom
What do you get when you combine a 4,000-square-foot floating wood dance floor with live swing-era classics and jazz standards? You get one helluva party. Easy Like Sunday Morning at STAR Theatre
Prolific local trumpet player Chris Klaxton will provide the live musical entertainment at the next installment of the Easy Like Sunday Mornings jazz brunch series at STAR Theatre in Kittery on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. For the Love of Food and Drink will cater the event.
