The Sound welcomes PortsmouthNH.com

A note from the publisher

The Sound is happy to announce the recent acquisition of PortsmouthNH.com, another website dedicated to all things local. For two decades, the website has highlighted Seacoast arts, events, activities, attractions, dining, lodging, and more, and we look forward to continuing that tradition.

We acquired the independently owned and operated website from founder Doug Roberts last week. Doug had tremendous foresight when he launched PortsmouthNH.com in 1996. In the 20 years since then, Portsmouth has grown as an arts and culture hub and all-around desirable place to live and visit. The site has become an invaluable resource for locals and visitors alike, and is now one of the most popular websites in the region.

PortsmouthNH.com has everything you need to plan a trip to the Seacoast, a fun weekend, or a night out. It’s got a comprehensive events calendar covering the entire Seacoast, listings of area restaurants and lodgings, local attractions and points of interest. It’s got weather forecasts, movie schedules, tide charts, and local photography. You can make hotel reservations and buy movie tickets right through the site. It’s even got a “harbor cam” offering live views of the Piscataqua River.

In the short term, we will not be making any major changes to the website. PortsmouthNH.com will remain separate from SoundNH.com, but we will link the two sites in ways that benefit both, creating some synergy. For instance, if The Sound interviews a band playing in the area, PortsmouthNH will link to the story in its events calendar. Likewise, The Sound will link to PortsmouthNH’s calendar to keep readers informed about all local events. Both sites will remain in local hands, and the content will remain free.

“The Sound is a great fit for PortsmouthNH.com,” Doug said. “They’re local, and they’re about local issues and promoting local business. I’m happy to be able to pass the website to them and looking forward to seeing what they do with it.”

The Sound became an online-only publication this spring, and the addition of PortsmouthNH.com will greatly enhance our offerings. We’re excited to continue improving our sites to provide the best local arts and culture coverage the Seacoast has to offer.

In the meantime, we’re putting out select print publications as well. Distribution of the second annual installment of The Beer Journal began today, and we’re already planning our fall edition of Style Queue Magazine.

Thank you for your continued support of local, independent media. If you have thoughts or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here for you!
