RPM turns 10

Music

Above, Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys deliver their completed RPM offering at the finish line of a past RPM Challenge.

Since its launch in 2006, the RPM Challenge has inspired more than 8,000 bands to take a shot at recording an album in the month of February. This year, RPM marks its 10th anniversary, and participants new and old are invited to join the celebration.

The RPM rules are simple: write and record an album of at least 10 songs or 35 minutes of original music in the 28 days of February. It is not a competition, and there are no prizes other than the reward of completing an album.

Finished CDs must be postmarked by noon on Monday, March 2, and mailed to RiverRun Bookstore, 142 Fleet St., Portsmouth, NH 03801. Albums can also be dropped off at RiverRun during the “finish line” event on Sunday, March 1. This year’s Global Listening Party takes place on Saturday, March 28, at 3S Artspace, a new venue opening soon in Portsmouth.
