Musicals for all ages

Stage

Patrick Dorow Productions (PDP), a performing arts organization based in Portsmouth and Kittery, has two unique musicals starting later this month at The Players’ Ring.

“Songs for a New World,” a musical by composer Jason Robert Brown, will be staged from Jan. 23 to Feb. 8. The show includes a number of stories, with settings ranging from the deck of a 1492 Spanish ship to a ledge 57 stories above Fifth Avenue. The cast features a blend of internationally touring actors and local performers, and the score features several modern hits.

Show times are Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 5 p.m. Tickets are $20.

PDP is also presenting a Youth Main Stage production of “Life on a Plate,” with shows on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 7, and 8. The original musical by Miles Burns and Hannah Morrisse follows Pea and other refrigerator leftovers as they seek Food Paradise.

Directed by Seraphina Caligiure, the show features area youth actors. The Cross Roads House, a homeless shelter in Portsmouth, will share the spotlight to promote and raise funds for its organization. All shows begin at 11 a.m., and tickets are $10.

Both PDP shows take place at The Players’ Ring, 105 Marcy St., Portsmouth, 603-436-8123. For tickets, visit playersring.org. For more information, visit patrickdorowproductions.com.
