Dover police and the state Attorney General’s office are investigating an apparent murder-suicide at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Officers responded to a 911 call from the hospital reporting shots were fired inside the critical care unit at approximately 6:03 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30, according to a statement from the AG’s office and Dover police. Officers found a deceased adult man and his deceased adult wife in a room inside the critical care unit and authorities believe the deaths were the result of a murder suicide.

“The incident was isolated to the patient room and no other patients, family members, or employees were harmed. The hospital is safe,” said Dawn Fernald, the hospital’s director of marketing and public relations, in a statement. “This was a tragic event. Our priorities now are to continue to deliver care to our patients and support our staff.”

Officials have not yet released the names of the deceased pending notification of family members. — Larry Clow
