Medical pot meeting scheduled

The state Department of Health and Human Services is hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 1 to discuss a proposed medical marijuana cultivation site in Rochester. The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. at city hall, located at 31 Wakefield St.

In June, DHHS officials announced that three applicants — Prime Alternative Treatment Centers of NH Inc., Temescal Wellness Inc., and Sanctuary ATC — had been selected to open medical marijuana facilities (called alternative treatment centers) in the state. The law allows for one ATC in each of four geographic regions in the state. Region 1 encompasses the eastern part of the state, including Rockingham, Strafford, and Belknap counties; Region 2 is the southern part of the state; Region 3 includes the western part of the state; and Region 4 includes the North Country.

Earlier this month, DHHS officials announced that three communities — Plymouth, Lebanon, and Merrimack — could be home to medical marijuana dispensaries. Along with ATCs, the law allows providers to open cultivation sites. Temescal Wellness, which is slated to open ATCs in Regions 1 and 3, has proposed opening a cultivation site in Manchester, while Sanctuary ATC, which is looking at opening an ATC in Region 4, has proposed a cultivation site in Rochester.
