Food for fines

Lifestyle

For the next week, you can make your overdue-book fines disappear while also helping those in need.

Portsmouth Public Library is offering its Food for Fines program from Dec. 3 to 10. The program allows library cardholders to donate food and personal items to the Seacoast Family Food Pantry in exchange for forgiveness of overdue fines.

For each canned or non-perishable item approved, the library will forgive up to $2 in fines, with a maximum of $10 per patron. Bring the items to the circulation desk at the library any time during library hours.
