New Hampshire Film Festival announces 2016 programs

Several film and television stars are headed to Portsmouth for the 16th annual New Hampshire Film Festival, a multi-venue, four-day event taking place Oct. 13-16.

The festival unveiled its new artwork and announced some of the celebrity guests and events on Wednesday afternoon. The 2016 festival will feature close to 100 films, including several movie premieres. There will also be workshops, panel discussions, and appearances from famous filmmakers and actors.

Among the celebrities who are slated to attend this year’s festival is John Michael Higgins, an actor known primarily for his comedic roles in television shows such as Seinfeld and Arrested Development, as well as movies such as Best In Show and Pitch Perfect.

Another celebrity guest will be actor, comedian, and producer Tom Bergeron, best known for his role as host of Dancing with the Stars, America’s Funniest Home Videos, and Hollywood Squares.

Also attending will be musician and actor Alicia Witt, who has appeared in such TV shows as The Walking Dead and Friday Night Lights (and the forthcoming reboot of Twin Peaks), as well as films like Two Weeks Notice and Urban Legend.

The NHFF film screenings will be spread across several venues in downtown Portsmouth, including The Music Hall, The Music Hall Loft, 3S Artspace, and the Moffatt-Ladd House. The festival will be headquartered at the Discover Portsmouth Center, where several workshops and panels will take place.

NHFF will also host parties at various bars, clubs, and restaurants around town. A new element of this year’s festival will be a Virtual Reality Lounge.

There is a kick-off party for pass-holders and media members at the Thirsty Moose Tap House on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 5-7 p.m. For passes and more information, visit nhfilmfestival.com.
