Block Six, the restaurant at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth, has hired Sam Ostrow as executive chef and Michael Gehron as general manager.

Ostrow attended culinary school in Cambridge, Mass., and Seacoast diners will recognize him from the Black Trumpet Bistro in Portsmouth and the Black Birch in Kittery, Maine.

“To see (3S) finally come to fruition is an amazing sight to behold and I look forward to showing the public what we’ve been working so diligently to build,” he said.

Gehron was, most recently, the beverage director for the One Hundred Club in Portsmouth. He was also the general manager of 43 Degrees North in Portsmouth. At Block Six, Gehron said he and Ostrow will be “creating our own version, from the ground up, with passion, creativity, love, thoughtfulness, maybe a touch of romance, a dash of irony and quite a bit of cheek,” he said.

The restaurant will be open seven days a week and will offer locally-sourced, contemporary American cuisine, including classic dishes with a “unique twist.” Block Six will open on March 18. — Larry Clow
