On Saturday, April 4, the Museum of Art at the University of New Hampshire invites everyone to “Draw On!”

During the free program, visiting artist Alexis Carter Kochka will guide participants through the creative process of portrait drawing, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The community activity is a celebration of drawing, offering creative and social engagement for all ages and levels. The goal is to foster collaboration, creative development, and the capacity to play.

Participants can stop by the museum and experiment with hands-on activities that demonstrate drawing techniques, such as form, proportion, anatomy, texture, value, and planes. Reference materials and books on contemporary artists will be available for inspiration. Supplies will be provided.

Kochka will guide people through portrait drawing exercises, using different techniques and tools. She currently teaches drawing at UNH.

Her paintings look at the relationship between people and the natural world, and are often created from observation outside. “I want to illustrate feelings of places I have experienced, express the warmth of the sun, or the cold shadow of the forest under-story,” she said, in a press release.

The Museum of Art is located in the Paul Creative Arts Center, 30 Academic Way, Durham, online at unh.edu/moa. — Chloe Kanner
