Valentine dancing and romancing

Music

If you haven’t yet made plans to sweep your Valentine off her feet this weekend, there’s still time. Several concerts taking place around the Seacoast offer music and romance.

On Saturday, Feb. 14, Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury, Mass., will host a Valentine’s Big Band Bash, offering glitzy swing standards and a bountiful dinner buffet. The 10-member New England-based Adagio Lite Band will perform at 8:30 p.m., following a pre-show buffet dinner catered by Seaglass Restaurant. Tickets are $75 with dinner or $25 for the show only. Visit blueoceanhall.com.

The Dance Hall in Kittery, Maine, is also diving back into the classic big-band era with a Valentine’s Dance featuring The New Legacy Swing Band. With five saxophones, six brass instruments, a rhythm section, and a sultry jazz singer, the Seacoast-based band is a veritable dance orchestra. Doors open at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Visit thedancehallkittery.org.

The romance continues on Sunday, Feb. 15, when renowned guitarist Ed Gerhard offers a Valentine’s Concert at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre in Portsmouth. Gerhard is an acoustic virtuoso who plays six-string, 12-string, slide guitar, and Hawaiian lap slide. He’s based in New Hampshire but has toured around the world. Tickets to the show are $24.99. If none of that suits your sense of romance, spend Valentine’s evening at The Press Room and let the soothing sounds of Humpmuscle get you in the mood. Their name alone evokes daydreams of amour. Humpmuscle’s brand of rock is heavy and aggressive, just like true love. The show starts at 9 p.m. and the door charge is $5.
