Women's March 2018

Women’s March 2018

Market Square
Portsmouth, NH 03801
United States

The Women’s March of 2017 was a historic event, the largest single-day march in U.S. history drawing more than 3 million marchers nationwide and more than 5 million worldwide. Once again, we are planning a local Woman’s March for our community to come together and to reach out to others to let them know what is going on is not acceptable.  Over 4 thousand concerned citizens have already signed on as interested or planning on attending, far more than we had signed on at this point in time last year. As many as 5 thousand citizens came out last year to take a stand against the attacks on women’s rights and all of our rights!  Just as last year, millions are expected around the country to stand for human rights, diversity, environmental health, and economic fairness.

Protests such as the Women’s March are essential in any nonviolent people power movement. They give hope to individuals who are feeling isolated and overwhelmed by the horrors being promulgated by the powerful in our country. Marches and vigils show our children and the rest of the world that Americans are kind, generous, tolerant, inclusive, and compassionate people, and that they will not stand for the selfish, misogynistic, racist, homophobic and transphobic policies the Trump administration and other wrongminded politicians are intent on passing.

As with last year, this year’s event is inclusive. All are welcome who wish to show their support for human dignity and a nation that values freedom and justice for every cultural group. This will be a peaceful march. There will be multiple speeches from women from diverse cultural groups.

The Leftist Marching Band will once again help keep us all moving to stay warm with their inspiring music.

Organizers of this event are currently Occupy Seacoast, Climate Action NH, and The Resistance Seacoast, though other groups may very well step up to give their support. We are all working closely with the Portsmouth Police Department to help ensure that the event is peaceful and family friendly, just as it was last year.

Occupy NH Seacoast is a local group working to promote social and economic equality worldwide.
