Winter Fuzz Festival at The Congregational Church in Exeter

After a one-year absence, a Winter Fuzz Festival will take place in Exeter during the last weekend of January.  The 2019 Fuzz Festival will be held from 10 AM — 2 PM on Saturday, January 26 at the Congregational Church in Exeter, 21 Front Street. (snow date February 2).

The purpose of a Fuzz Fest is to let the public see the many ways that people in the area are raising or using local natural fibers in useful, fundamental products.  The word “fiber” covers sheep wool, goat hair, alpaca fiber, rabbit fur, reeds, grasses, pine needles, and wood.  Exhibitors will display and demonstrate their work with sheep skins, piles of combed and carded wool ready for spinning, homespun yarns ready for knitting or weaving, the making of wool felt and felt products, making baskets and other containers from grasses and pine needles, and fashioning sturdy, artistic walking sticks that last a lifetime.

Visitors will see several types of spinning wheels and weaving looms in action, braided rugs taking shape, hand knitting and machine knitting, and tools that are used in the various activities.  Some exhibitors will encourage visitors to try their hand at what interests them.  They will all share information about how to begin, where to go for lessons, where to purchase tools and material, and how rewarding it is to be involved with activities that have been useful for centuries.

The 2019 Fuzz Fest will be free and open to the public.  It will be coordinated by the Shawl Knitters’ group of the Congregational Church.  For more information please contact Linda Rousseau, co-chair, 772-4534 or [email protected]
