The Black Matter Is Life

** Please note: Due to current COVID transmission levels, the BHTNH team has decided to cancel the in-person option for this event and move to a fully virtual format. 

Join us for the third event in the series entitled, “Emphatic Affirmations.” Student Poet Kaylee Cheen from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH will read a poem to open the event.  Featured guest poet Sonya Sanchez will read her work and engage in conversation with our hosts and the audience.

The Black Matter Is Life poetry series is an engaging event that explores the vast diversity in the African American poetic tradition. UNH professor Reginald Wilburn, Phillips Exeter Academy professor Courtney Marshall, and guest poet Sonya Sanchez will deepen the conversation as they deconstruct the following poems by poets Cordelia Ray, Tracy K. Smith, Al Young, and Effie Lee Newsome.
