In its second year, the Portsmouth Jazz & Blues Festival at Portwalk Place features more than a dozen blues and jazz artists performing at eight stages inside Portwalk Place hotels and restaurants on Veterans Day, Sunday November 11 from noon to 6 pm. The revived music festival is sponsored by Cathartes, the private, Boston-based real estate developer that built Portwalk Place, (tucked between Deer and Hanover Streets),in cooperation with Richard Smith, head of Cuzin Richard Entertainment Associates (CREA), since 1976, in Portsmouth.
A ticketed, special evening concert to benefit veterans in New Hampshire has been added this year. To Honor Their Service: A Night of Jazz & Blues will be staged at Portsmouth Harbor Events + Conference Center, located within Portwalk Place and features a two-act billing: long time Seacoast favorite, Combo Sabroso, led by pianist Matt Jenson and featuring Cuban trumpeter Yaure Muniz (of Buena Vista Social Club, Afro-Cuban Allstars) and the Providence-based, Grammy-nominated Roomful of Blues.
Proceeds from this charity concert will benefit Veterans Count, (http://vetscount.org/nh), a philanthropic arm of Easter Seals Military and Veterans Services, an organization that provides critical and timely financial assistance and services when no other resource is available to NH veterans, service members, and their families, to ensure their dignity, health, and overall well-being. Concert tickets are $30, advance, available at www.facebook.com/portwalkplace and Eventbrite, and $40 (cash only) the day of at the door, starting at 6pm.
