‘Parade’ at the Seacoast Rep

Seacoast Rep
125 Bow St
Portsmouth, NH 03801 US

Parade
Mar 17- Apr 9

The Broadway masterpiece about an innocent life hanging in the balance marches onto The Rep’s stage!

Bold, innovative, and daring, Parade is the deeply moving true story of Leo Frank, a Jewish man transplanted into the South at the turn of the century. Accused of a crime he did not commit, he becomes the center of a media spectacle as fake news & false testimony pits him against a community hungry for blood. This suspenseful, real-life parable puts the United States’ prejudices on trial, weaving together narratives of Jewish culture, antisemitism, and Black America in the heart of the post-Confederate South. Winning Tonys for both its exhilarating contemporary score & exquisite book, Parade vibrates the soul with heartbreaking grandeur in the tradition of musicals like Ragtime and Titanic – it is an epic evening of theatre that is not to be missed!

Leo Frank’s conviction in 1913 was the impetus for the founding of the Anti-Defamation League later that year – and now, over a century later, the ADL will be joining us for a discussion of Parade and how we all can address hate and intolerance in our own communities. Also joining the discussion will be Rabba Kaya Stern-Kaufman from Portsmouth’s Temple Israel and other interfaith leaders. Join us for a celebration of love and a moving, enlightening discussion of how to prevent history from repeating itself in today’s polarized world, at 5pm on March 26th after the matinee performance of Parade. This is a free event, and does not require the purchase of a ticket to Parade. We hope to see you there!
