Valerie’s Gallery will be participating in the city’s upcoming Art ‘Round Town by featuring visiting artists, Kathleen Buchanan and Linda Gray, on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 5-8 pm at the gallery, located at 117 Market Street in Portsmouth, NH. As always, events are family friendly and light refreshments will be served.
Kathleen Buchanan is a collagraph printmaker who is inspired simultaneously by the landscape of Maine, and her residency in Ireland. Prior to becoming a full time printmaker, Kathleen studied Biology in college and graduate school. She cites her scientific training essential in her artistic process, since “both require the ability to observe the environment around you.” She sees the arts and sciences as “two dialects in the same language”, and uses them both to create representations of relationships in nature.
Linda Gray has made a career in New Hampshire’s arts and nonprofit fields since graduating from Plymouth State College in 1978 with a BS in Art Education. In 2006, she began to paint in oil. Linda is inspired by the effermeral elements of the sky, land, and water. She is “drawn to the sensory richness of linseed oil, lush pigments, and the ‘give’ of brush on canvas”. Linda paints on locations off the coast of Maine and the White Mountains, as well as in her home studio.
