The bitch is back. The trail of rainbow carnage continues! Join Seacoast Repertory Theatre for the extended-extended Red Light special engagement of the four-time Tony Award-winning Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
Innovative, heartbreaking, and savagely funny, Hendwig and the Angry Inch is the landmark musical by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask that broke the mold and captured Broadway. This genre-bending, fourth-wall-smashing musical sensation, with a pulsing score and electrifying performances, tells the story of one of the most unique characters to ever hit the stage.
You haven’t seen Hedwig like this. Raw, intimate, always different, always unique, always live as-all-hell.
Hedwig Schmidt, a leather-fisted East German rock ‘n’ roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation, which has left her with just “an angry inch.” This outrageous and unexpectedly hilarious story is dazzlingly performed by Hedwig (née Hansel) in the form of a rock gig/stand-up comedy routine backed by the hard-rocking band “The Angry Inch.”
Directed by the Mad Men of Oopsy Daisy Inc!, the creative force behind recent Seacoast smash hits Avenue Q, Bitter Pill, Mad Haus, A New Brain, Tommy and more, Hedwig is a glamorous multimedia punk-rock show sure to delight newcomers and long-time Hedwig Fans.
Hedwig will be played by award-winning Seacoast Rep resident Jason Faria (A New Brain, Avenue Q). He’ll be supported by fellow SRT resident Alyssa Dumas (Violet, Xanadu) and backed by a live rock band.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is not appropriate for all audiences. It contains animated depictions of sexual assault, instances of transphobic and homophobic language, implied child abuse, and other content which might trigger certain sensitivities
