The popular 16-piece Blue Note Big Band with vocalist Denise Therrien brings its “Have a Swingin’ Holiday” show to the Statey Bar and Grill, 238 Deer Street, Portsmouth, on Tuesday, December 10, at 7 p.m. The program is a fundraiser benefitting HAVEN, the human service organization providing violence prevention and recovery services to children, adults and families in the greater Seacoast region.
There is no cover charge for the show but voluntary contributions will be asked. The band is donating its performance so that HAVEN will receive 100 percent of proceeds from the event. Free reserved parking is available for Statey patrons directly across the street from the restaurant. Statey, formerly the State Street Saloon, offers a full bar and dining menu and has been actively supporting local causes for more than than 35 years.
HAVEN, with a main office in the Pease Tradeport at 20 International Drive, is a non-profit organization formed in 2015 by the merger of Sexual Assault Support Services and A Safe Place, two longstanding Seacoast human service agencies. HAVEN is today New Hampshire’s largest such organization providing wide-ranging recovery services and prevention education to those impacted by domestic and sexual violence.
The Blue Note Big Band, with music director Eric Andrews, performs throughout the New Hampshire Seacoast, southern Maine, and the Massachusetts’ North Shore, including past concerts at the Prescott Park Arts Festival, Jonathan’s Ogunquit, for the Ogunquit Playhouse, and at numerous community concerts and dances. For this holiday performance the band will feature dozens of the most well-known seasonal songs set in swinging jazz arrangements.
Development director Devin Oot said, “HAVEN is a public health organization with programs targeting the problems of domestic violence, sexual assault, suicide prevention, and improved well-being of children and families. Public support of these programs is more important now than ever because demand for our services is steadily rising, and that need tends to rise moe dramatically during the holidays. That’s why we hope to have a large turnout for this special fundraising event. Every dollar given will help a person in need.”
