Slow Food Seacoast’s Gleaned Garden Supper will take place on Sunday, August 5th from 2pm to 6pm at Shilo Farm, 88 Beech Rd, Eliot, ME 03903. The supper will feature delicious wood-fired pizzas cooked in Shilo Farm’s cob oven, collaboratively built by owners Amylyn and Jonas Zev Amberger and friends, Sara Becker and Andrew Gardiner from Harvest Design Collective. In addition to the pizza, we’ll have side dishes, desserts, and tastings available for folks to enjoy.
All of these wonderful food items will be prepared mostly from gleaned produce (“seconds” or excess produce) from local farms. The purpose of preparing the meal in this manner is to raise awareness about food waste and the issues surrounding our current food system.
The supper will be set up picnic-style with a live bluegrass band (Old Hat & Company), homestead tours, lawn games, ping pong, and much more! Tickets are available online (https://slowfoodseacoast.eventbrite.com). Adult (21+) are $34, Young Adult (12-20) are $24, Youth (3-12) are $16, and Child (under 3) are free. There are opportunities to volunteer for this event.
A special thank you to our donors, Maine Grains, Cabot Cheese, and Backyard Garlic and to all of the participating farms, including Black Kettle Farm and others that help make the Gleaned Garden Supper possible.
We have a special VIP ticket option available. This special option includes a Foraging and Wild-Crafting Tour with Slow Food leader and ethnobotanist John Forti (www.jforti.com) which will take place before the event at 1pm. John and the founders of Shilo Farm, will lead an expedition for edible and medicinal plants on the property. Along the way we will learn more about the plants we encounter and the natural world around us. At the end of the tour we will make a seasonal tea from botanicals we find along the way. VIP tickets are $44 and includes the foraging tour, meal, beverages, and more!
