Adult Comedy Performance Training
Instructor: Stephanie Lazenby
Fee: $150* Please contact to discuss payment plans/scholarships.

Our Couch To Mic program has been a huge success with brave new performers taking to the stage in front of a packed theatre. Are you ready to make people laugh?

Students will participate via Zoom. You will be able to access the class through a computer, smart phone or by calling in on a landline. Stephanie Lazenby’s instruction will be given through this method, and students will have the same opportunity to introduce themselves, explore their stories, and learn performance skills.

In this challenging time we know that our mission of sparking conversation, connecting individuals and strengthening community is even more important and therefore we are working to find innovative ways to continue our work together. Thank you for diving into this experiment and exploring the joys of comedy and community in this new (virtual) way.

Whether it’s out with friends, at a meeting, or diffusing a tense family holiday discussion, are you always making people laugh? If you were in a comedy group in college, or have never graced the stage join other adults in NHTP’s Couch to Mic. In just four weeks you will improvise, workshop, and write three minutes of comedy – it could be stand up, news commentary like a correspondent on The Daily Show or maybe a short sketch. It’s your choice.

This five-week session will be taught by one of our newest teaching artists, Stephanie S. Lazenby, a writer and performer based in Portsmouth, NH. Stephanie began her comedy journey by memorizing the entire movie Airplane! as a teenager and has put those skills to work ever since. She was a member of Emerson Comedy Workshop at Emerson College and continued writing and performing original shows and short films in her hometown of New York City.

Stephanie moved to the Seacoast in 2003 where her writing has been published locally, including a monthly column in The Portsmouth Herald: Mom’s in the City, as well as nationally in publications like Redbook and stage productions called Listen To Your Mother. From 2016 to 2018 she was the host of Pecha Kucha, which is held seasonally at 3S Artspace.

Couch to Mic LIVE will be hosted by Stephanie Lazenby on the NHTP YouTube Channel.
