SUMMARY:Climbing Film Tour at the UNH MUB
DESCRIPTION:Salt Pump Climbing Company will host the Climbing Film Tour on Friday November 22 at 6:30pm at University of New Hampshire’s Memorial Union Building Theater II in Durham. The event\, which includes a raffle\, is free for Salt Pump members\, $5 for not-yet-members. \nClimbing Film Tour’s 5th season features a selection of short films celebrating the global climbing community. Climbing Film Tour is a unique platform for climbers and filmmakers around the world to share their stories with the community. Each year\, films are submitted and selected by our Vertical Life climbing team to go on tour with screenings in hundreds of gyms\, and cinemas. Join us for a journey around the world. \nThis season\, films follow Ian Elliott\, a 72-year-old Australian rock climber defying age stereotypes as he ascends a grade 28/7c route just before his 70th birthday. Kai Lightner\, a 12-time national climbing champion\, against the backdrop of Jamaica and their emerging climbing community. Meet up with Freya\, Leo Houlding’s daughter\, who uses climbing as a practice to lean into discomfort and fear to help navigate her neurodiversity and harness its strengths. You’ll be on the edge of your seat in Cedar Wright’s film “Dropping Molly”\, following Molly Mitchell’s Roller Coaster Journey to climb “Crank-It”\, one of Colorado’s most dangerous routes. We’ll take you north to the ephemeral Scottish land of mixed climbing with Fay and Line and then meet up with Québécois/ Australian Jacques Beaudoin climber and the effort behind a hard trad first ascent up a thin crack in The Gardens of Stone Conservation Area of Newnes Plateau\, NSW\, Australia. And then\, well\, a film about Jackson Marvell. The films are exempt from classification as sports documentaries\, but suitable for general audience viewing. Films may vary between screenings. \n“We’re hosting monthly member appreciation events throughout fall and winter\,” explained Taki Miyamoto\, Salt Pump’s Managing Partner. “We know there will be a lot of interest and excitement for this one\, and it deserves a true big screen\, so it made sense to move this one out of the gym and into a MUB theater. We’ll see you there!” \nThe event host\, Salt Pump Climbing Company\, opened its second location in February of this year\, in Portsmouth on Constitution Avenue. The 14\,700 square foot facility is focused on bouldering\, or shorter climbs that don’t require the use of ropes. Layout includes a large main climbing area\, dedicated areas for training and fitness\, a child and family friendly climbing area with top roping terrain (~20 feet tall)\, and yoga room. Walk-ins are welcome and intro-level instruction is available.
