The Civil War Roundtable of New Hampshire presents Robert Hodgman at our next meeting. All are welcome!
This talk will share some information about some of the distinguished figures that served in the 23rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry with a focus on Rutherford B. Hayes who became a member of Congress, was Governor of Ohio, and 19th President of the United States. Two U.S. Presidents, and many others who continued to serve throughout their life, were members of the Ohio 23rd. Much of this talk will include sharing excerpts from Rutherford’s many letters written during the Civil War and his diary entries. Rutherford wrote many letters to his wife, Lucy, and his Mother and Uncle. He also wrote in a journal everyday of his life from age 12 until he died in 1893 at the age of 70. These letters and diary entries provide an amazing window into some of the events that soldiers experienced during the Civil War.
