Watts that sound?

Music

Local musician Tim McCoy has lent his talents to numerous bands over the years, serving as a worthy figurehead for the Seacoast’s rock scene. His reach extends to Boston, where he sings and plays bass with the retro-rock outfit Watts.

Watts recently released its third album, “Flash of White Light,” and celebrated with a CD release show at The Midway Café in Jamaica Plain on Jan. 17.  The album opens with the title track, a searing punk-inspired number that sets a hard-rocking tone for the 10 songs that follow. At various points, the CD evokes the classic rock of the ’60s, the early punk of the ’70s, and the hair bands of the ’80s. Joining McCoy in the lineup are guitarists Dan Kopko and John Blount, and drummer John Lynch.

The band will headline a Seacoast record release show on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. at The Press Room, 77 Daniel St., Portsmouth, with guests The Connection and Boston’s Gymnasium. The $10 admission includes a copy of “Flash of White Light.” The album also is available at watts.bandcamp.com. For more information on the band, visit Facebook.com/wattsrock.
