Thompson Tavern opens in Dover

Thompson Tavern is the latest sports bar and restaurant to open in the Garrison City. It opened on Jan. 2 and the venue’s first two weeks in business have been “very successful and very busy,” according to bar manager Tammy Cajar.

The bar is located at 421 Central Ave., above Orange Leaf and Central Barber Shop. It’s something of a return for owner Kim Laughton; her husband Rick owned Daniel’s Sports Bar in the same location 10 years ago. The Spaghetti Stain, which occupied the space before Thompson Tavern, closed last fall.

The tavern serves “pub food and lots of healthy choices,” Cajar says, along with a selection of draft beers. It also hosts a trivia night on Thursdays.

Cajar was a customer at Daniel’s and said it’s “amazing” to be working behind the bar. She’s already seen a number of Daniel’s regulars come in. “I feel like Dover is reuniting … this is definitely going to be Dover’s local hangout,” she says. — Larry Clow
