Leddy Center for the Performing Arts, Epping NH
Leddy Center produced its first show in July of 1975 as the Epping Community Church Players, in order to raise money to buy the oil needed for the church to hold their services in the sanctuary instead of in the basement of the church. Elaine Gatchell was the choir director of the Epping Community Church then (and now) and continued to produce and direct one show each year to raise money not only for the church but for many organizations within the town such as the Ambulance Fund, and the Epping Fire Department. The theater group also was the largest contributor in the state of New Hampshire to Heifer Project International, a non-profit organization that sends animals to hungry people all over the world where they reproduce and their owners share the offspring with neighbors. The name of the players changed when the group was gifted the permanent use of the second floor in the old Leddy Brothers building in 1984, and began expanding its offerings to include more productions, a concert series, classes and private lessons in the arts, as well as bringing arts assembly programs to schools in the greater area. The first production in the new space was 'My Fair Lady', held in July of 1985. July of 2008 marks Leddy Center's 34th year producing quality shows and concerts in southeastern New Hampshire!
