The Piscataqua River has one of swiftest and most difficult currents in the country. Since the 1930s, this pier on Ceres Street has been home to several 100-foot tugboat used today to bring tankers up the river at slack tide. Local river pilots are required to take the helm of the commercial vessels and guide them safely through the channel.
