Foster’s Daily Democrat sold for $5 million

Foster’s Daily Democrat ended its 141-year run as an independent, family-owned newspaper on Dec. 1. New Media Investment Group, the New York-based company that owns Seacoast Media Group, publisher of the Portsmouth Herald, purchased Geo. J. Foster & Co., Inc., which publishes Foster’s Daily Democrat, the Rochester Times, and Sanford News, for $5 million. The sale was finalized on Monday, Dec. 1. Foster’s Daily Democrat will become part of Seacoast Media Group and will continue to cover Dover, Somersworth, Rochester, and surrounding communities.
